Under Settings->View->Info, the "Insert" button has quite a few options. One thing I haven't been able to figure out how to show is *hierarchical* keywords. {IPTC:Keywords} shows a "flat list" of keywords, but if you have i.e. animals/birds in Photoshop, it will simply list "animals" and "birds."

Looking under the Info panel, it looks like the hierarchy is shown under XMP-Ir/hierarchicalSubject. However, anything I try doesn't seem to get these to appear in the overlay: i.e. {XMP-Ir:HierarchicalSubject}, {XMP:HierarchicalSubject}, {XMP-Ir:hierarchicalSubject}, {XMP-Ir:hierarchicalSubject[0]}, etc.

Any idea on how keywords can be shown on the overlay, but without losing the "hierarchy?"

there is no way. How do you want to show hierarchical keywords? like "animals>birds"?

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.4.3. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.

By adding {XMP:HierarchicalSubject} in Settings > View> Info

... we can see xmp_lr:HierarcicalSubject in View mode
