revealing 2022 images

XnView 1.3.1, 19,1 iMac, 13.1 Ventura:
I always open XnView on a folder w 2022 jpgs I use for desktop pictures.
Always the very first time I open XnView 1.3.1 and always this folder,
XnView gets stuck [spinning beachball,] so I force quit XnView.
I immediately double click to reopen XnView. It immediately opens to reveal all 2022 images.
Why does XnView become stuck opening the folder the first time?
