XNView loves to not come up (UI)

Since the latest version, very often I double click XNView, or a picture, and XNView will not appear. It is endlessly busy in the task manager, occupying one core (12.5% CPU).

I think I could try to remove XNViews %appdata%... but oh I don't want to set all the settings again.

Any idea?

Try to rename your xnview.ini to see if it's a setting?

OK, I did. Now with fresh settings, already after double click jpeg #3 it happened again. Will wait patiently now if the xnview process, which does something (12.5% CPU) will terminate at some point.

It does not terminate. I found, it's some ATI process. Something about OpenGL. Well yes, I have a Radeon RX580 GPU - why is it related?

Try Radeon Software 22.5.1 or Pro Edition 22.Q4

The new drivers seem to have some issues causing some Qt apps to act up like this. It doesn't affect XnView MP 1.3.1 though.

I have the same issue - XNView MP Version 1.4.1 64bits (Jan 13 2023), AMD Ryzen 7700X, 32GB DDR5 @6400, RADEON 7900 XTX driver v.23.1.1 (and previous version 22.11) also with previous XNView version 1.4.0. (I am using portable version).
When I double click image the program loads in memory and I can only terminate the process via Task Manager. When I select image and wait a few seconds and then hit Enter it starts normally, most of the time.
If I don't terminate the process, it just stays in memory indefinitely.

I have exactly the same problem, I only happens in 1.4.0 and 1.4.1. With 1.3.1 it doesn´t happens and works well.
I have a RX580 with the 22.11.2 drivers, I have many programs the use Qt and there are no problems at all, only with XnView MP.
When I open an image in the browser it' don't show up but still in the background with a cpu use about 10%, then I close it down in the task manager and works well several times but then start to fail again.

even after a reboot?? It's related with the change QWebKit=>QWebEngine

I've tried after a reboot but the problem is the same, nothing changes.
Yes, you can send me a test version when you want.

I can confirm this bug.
Lately, I've been experimenting with the new .avif format.
So I'm creating a lot of different quality .avif files with XnConvert and open them with a double-click from the file explorer to view them in XnView MP.

Sometimes, when I try to open a picture with a double-click, XnView MP does not open.
Instead a zombie process starts running in the background.
It is taking up a lot of CPU (10.5% on a Ryzen 5600X)

Watch:
ultra high cpu load despite I've closed all instances of xnviewmp.png
As you can see, there can be multiple zombie processes.
All of them are running invsibly in the background grilling the CPU.

I have been seeing something like this in Linux [DEB] for some time:

When XnView MP is closed and I click on an ordinary file such as a JPEG or PNG, the program opens normally;

When XnView MP is already open and I click on an ordinary file such as a JPEG or PNG, the program icon in the toolbar shows activity, but the file is not displayed in the already open program, until the program icon is clicked.

This certainly goes back at least several main versions now.

Interesting.
I just tried to reproduce the bug by force.
So I double-clicked on an image file and closed XnView MP afterwards.
I did this about 20 times in a row.
Nothing happened.

BUT:
When I had Classic open in the background and double-clicked on an .avif file (which I have associated with Xnview MP), the bug appeared!
Zombie process is running and gobbling up 10.5% CPU

Edit:
Just rebooted.
Tried to launch Xnview MP with the link from the start menu.
-> 2x zombie process.
-> 3x zombie process.
Xnview MP refuses to launch.
