I am having issues with editing the creation date of a file and IPTC. When I change date created and other properties through the edit IPTC tab they are changed but not updated when I check the properties and info of the file. Can you please help.

IPTC dates and system dates are different fields.
There is also a third one, the exif dates.

System date and exif date can be edited in Tools > Change timestamp menu

IPTC dates are edited in edit IPTC, and shown only in the iptc tab (in info pane)

System dates must be after 1970 01 01

I 'm using exif dates only ... most softwares can read them.

It doesn’t make a difference whether EXIF or IPTC the date still doesn’t update in properties, I have just tried. Also noticed when I click clear meta data I am still able to see properties such as initial date created and last modified, does anyone know why this is?

Can you describe how are you displaying these properties ?

If it's OS properties (right click in browser = "file" properties ) , the only way to change them is "Tools > Change timestamp" and check the two first checkboxes.

"Clean metadata" does not work on system attributes.

You are right on this : It seems that changing "IPTC create date" will also update "file created" date, I don't know why.
But for me, then "file created" date is updated anywhere I can show it after changing "IPTC create date".

Yes both in MacBook file properties and properties in the XnView app it doesn’t show. And I don’t know. Funny enough I used this application last week once just to grasp an understanding of how to use it and successfully changed the file created date on a random file. Now I have the file I actually need to change the file creation date it doesn’t work! Lol can anybody help with this?

Hi, new user of XnView. Congratulations to developers, what I was looking to organized photos since 2004 of my daughters.
Im on a MAC, and was also struggling to change the creation date. As Pierre said in MAC "officially" is not posible. The only way I managed to change the creation date using the EXIF date taken tag, was using "A Better Finder Attributes" app. Or the other option is copy the images to an external hard drive, and use a Windows computer with XnView and change the creation date on a batch.
