I would like to resurrect this issue, as I'm experiencing it in the latest 1.4.2. The XMP:Description in a thumbnail label is not persisted.

To reproduce:
1. I have a JPG file with a description saved in IPTC:Caption and also in the embedded XMP:dc:description.
2. I use the XMP:Description in the browser tooltip:
and also in the thumbnail label:
3. I remove the folder with this JPG from the catalog in the Catalog settings, just for the test. When I display the JPG in the browser for the first time, everything is OK. The tooltip and thumbnail label display the XMP:Description ("Stará Lesná" in the image below):
4. But as soon as I navigate to a different folder, then I get back to the folder with JPG, the XMP:Description is missing in the thumbnail label. The tooltip is OK:
The description gets back with View - Rebuild thumbnails. But again, when I go to another folder and back, it's lost again. It seems like a problem with Catalog.

Thanks to your detailed description I can reproduce the problem.

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.4.3. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.

It works as expected in 1.4.3. I had to rebuild the Catalog. Thanks.
I'm really amazed by the customizations available in the application.
