Browser doesn't show sub-folders for external disks

I am using a MacBook (mac ios 12.2.1) with XnView MP 1.4.3 installed.
I have an external disk (NTFS, read-only) connected to my macbook, and I would like to access to my root picture folder in this external disk. However, in XnView Browser mode, when I double click the root folder, the browser panel shows none of the sub-folders. The browser does show all pictures contained when I double click a specific sub-folder though.
Why is that happending ? Is that because I am using a read-only NTFS disk ? Ideally I would like to show all the sub-folders in the root folder, so that I can recursively show all files in the root folder. I tried adding root folder to the category but it takes forever.
Thanks.
