Convert PNG to WEBP loses EXIF Data

When converting Png to Webp, the 'comment' or exif data is lost.
I understand they use different ways of storing exif data but surely there's a way to just convert it to Webp's way of doing it, its just a bunch of comment data after all.

it's not exif metadata, but extra strings. These datas are not kept...

Ah, is there a chance you'd add support for converting these extra strings to be carried over to PNG or other? Or if there's another way.

I have a same problem.. xnview shows exif data... conversion to webp with this tool loses it all..

if its not exif data then why does xnview show it as exif data in that tab?

eitherway webp conversion is losing that its kinda sad as what is point in converting to webp if its going to lose data.. I'm trying to preserve data but get a lower file size for quality/filesize ratio

losing the metadata is a bit suck.. anything doable on this?

EXIF metadata is kept into webp. Could you send a png sample?

Just tested it now, converting this image to WEBP loses its AI prompt data.
I do know that WEBP can store comment data or exif data because in Stable Diffusion you can set it to use WEBP and checking the generated image that are WEBP, has the prompt data in it.

I've attached a zip file with the WEBP generated in Stable Diffusion, I did make sure it does have EXIF data as you can see in this screenshot

Also seems to happen with PNG -> AVIF batch conversions despite selecting keep metadata. I realize this isn't the author's fault probably, I'm sure something in my production chain isn't using international standards that they should be using. But since the author of this software is very nearly a deity, I shall pray and ask -- if maybe he can find a divinely-inspired way to convert the "metadata" to a format that AVIF (or whatever is chosen) can use? If this never happens, I'll still be very thankful for author's liberal nature in sharing his creations with us. Hat off to you, Sir.
