I've using 1.4.5 under Windows 11 x64 for the past few weeks and thumbnails on archive files keep disappearing.

After a fresh install the thumbnails generate properly on the parent folders and the zip/cbz files:

After working for a while they disappear and are replaced with the generic application icon, in this case, SumatraPDF. Note: This happened before I installed Sumatra, too.


The folder icons are still okay, though.


If I delete the xnview.ini and Thumb.db and restart it will generate the icons again. None of the thumbnail related settings seem to help. What I've determined is that the thumbnails disappear after opening and closing "Settings" even if I leave the settings unchanged.

how to reproduce?
You double click on a .zip, thumbnails of content is good, you open Settings, close and now the thumbnails are gone?

Yes, that's it. You could try fiddling with some settings if that doesn't reproduce the problem. FYI, the same thing happened on Mac as well.

Update: So I tried again on a new M2 Mac and the same thing happened.

To reiterate:
With a fresh install (deleting xnview.ini works too) zip/rar thumbnails appear fine. After closing Settings (no actual changes) zip/rar reverts to generic icons.

Odd, I've tried it with three different machines and the same thing happens.

it's crazy, i've tried on Windows 10, 11 & MacOS with clean ini, and no problem...
