Give Photos to Family on USB Drive w/XnView

Here's what I want to to do: I have spent a good deal of time organizing and annotating Family photos. Now I want to share -give - these photos to family members. These recipients are likely not real savvy about meta data. But nevertheless, I would like for them to see the tag individual names and captions. So, The question: What do I put on the USB drive with the photos. XnView MP or Classic? Does the metadata transfer with the photos, or do I need to do something different? I am assuming to use a portable version of XnView. If they want, and are able, they could always download and install a version of XnView to their computer. I will put, as a minimum, a "read me" file on the drive to direct the folks to click on XnView to get started viewing the photos, and maybe a little minor instructions like "hovering" over the thumbnail to see caption --- or something like that.
Any ideas, past experiences, suggestions greatly appreciated.

you can use portable version of XnView MP. Do you write keywords in file itself?

I think so. On the selected image I hit Cntrl-I then select keywords. I expect the names I put there are written to the file itself, and recipient will be able to view the names. I will have to set up a proper configuration or instruction to tell the viewer how to see the associated information.

When I'm setting up this application on a portable flash drive, should I be concerned about which configuration file I am modifying. I would want to modify the configuration file of my dekstop computer when I am running the portable version of XnView from the flash drive. Are they completely separate? If not, how do I make it so?

The location of the relevant files can be found in Tools > Settings... > Integration, and as far as I know the ZIP 'portable' version default locations are the same as those for the installed version. So you should probably expect to need to change each applicable location on [each] USB drive.
