1.5.3 64bits (Aug 11 2023)
Windows 10 Pro x64
When viewing photos xnView tries to open files without extension.
How to reproduce:
create a folder with images and with empty files without extensions
open image from windows explorer
press next/previous file until you encounter blank file
XnView will try to read it.
Expected behavior: XnView ignores them.
Current custom filter settings:

i can't reproduce. Which files format do you have? What do you have as 'Settings>General>Mode when....'?

My starting mode is in «Viewer»
I created an empty file without extension called test in powershell with
my test folder looks like this:

ls -Name
Hannah Hays - Adventure Time Cover.mp3
proof_CHB.pdf
test
test.epub
test.mkv
test.mp4
test.test
test.xls
test1.jpg
test2.jpg
Xnview ignores everything like it should except only for filenames without extension. I don't use browser in xnview and do not open from it. I use xnview in viewer mode and open files from explorer with doubleclicking on them and in this test folder xnview counts that there are 3 files in this folder «test1.jpg», «test2.jpg» and «test».

This problem is supposed to be fixed in
XnView MP 1.5.4. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.

sadly did not fixed for me and i also see test file without extension in buil-in xnview's browser in my test folder. This is how it looks:

Still prevalent in 1.6.1 (tries to open a file without extension), but if i uncheck «Include» it doesn't tries to read them. Like this:
