Hello, I just recently switched to XnViewMP and sadly already found some major inconveniences.

XnView: MP 1.5.3 - 64 bit
OS: Windows 11 - 64bit

When opening a downloaded Telegram Image with the "Open with" dialogue, it opens an empty XnViewMP Window. It's doesn't make a difference if you select "open browser at startup" in XnViewMP Settings. In both instances it opens an empty window. Paint and other image viewers like ACDSee open it as it should be.

Effect: Uh, you don't see the image you wanted to open?

To reproduce:
1. Download any Telegram Image that has been uploaded without compression (image not photo)
2. Klick on "open with" dialogue
3. Choose XnViewMP to open the image
4. Empty XnViewMP window opens

Actual behaviour (bug): "Open With" dialogue opens empty XnViewMP instance.

Expected behaviour: "Open With" dialogue opens XnViewMP with the image one selected in telegram.

which format is Telegram file? Could you send us an example?

In telegram you can upload images either with compression as "photos", which will get a new filename but retain the format, or you can upload images without compression as "images", which will retain name and format. Telegram doesn't change that.

When you use the second option it will have an "Open With" dialogue associated to it. This is like a context menu, where your available programs are listed.In this context menu you can choose the image tool you want, in my case XnVieMP. If you click that, it will open an empty window. Other image viewers work just fine.

so it's a jpeg files? Are you able to open with jpeg from windows explorer?

As I said, it's every image, not just jpg. It's png, bmp and so on, no image opens from telegram into XnViewMP.
And as I said, other image tools work just fine. And yes, I can open the files in windows explorer just fine as well.

and if you use Open with from windows explorer?

Hello, yes that worked fine. It was just telegram. But after installing 1.5.4 through Winget just now it looks like everything is working fine now.
I tested several different images and file formats and it looks like all open in XnViewMP now. So it looks like as if the bug is gone.
