Autocrop still not supported in the editor?

Post by cday »

Autocrop, long available in the XnView Classic editor, not yet supported in the editor, only in Batch convert?

Edit > Autocrop... seems like a natural location.

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.8.0. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.

I'm checking for updates, but XnView says there are no updates.
When will v1.8.0 be released?

Seems to work well at least in ideal conditions, thank you... :D

Use of the available setting options in real world non-ideal conditions always a bit of a mystery...

If you are using v1.80 it should be Edit... > Auto crop...

It's in the Linux download, and I assume that it should also be in the Mac version?

I see it now, Thanks.

What exactly is it supposed to do? I was under the impression that it would crop to the view framing (zoom, pan).

In principle, when an image consists of a clearly defined wanted rectangular area and a background, such as a scan of a book page where the text typically has margins, Automatic crop... will crop the image to just the block of text. That can be useful, for example, when the block of text is in slightly different positions on successive pages: a canvas resize can then be used to apply similar margins to each page for an enhanced appearance.

In real life, however, stray dark pixels outside the wanted block of text may stop the crop outside the wanted area of the image, although a suitable setting of the Tolerance value selected may overcome that issue.

I am attaching a test image that having been created using using drawing software, should crop to an 'ideal' result of a rectangular canvas that contains the two digits. Right-click on the image to save a copy.

Ah, nice feature. Works great.
Now, how do we get a 'ViewAutoCrop'? A feature that will crop the image to what is framed (zoom, pan) in the Viewer.
