JPEG XL for Linux
Pardon me if this topic is redundant as "XL" is too short to search for.
Is there a plan to add support for JPEG XL under Linux?

I see this did not make it into 1.8.0. I do hope support is still planned.

Re: JPEG XL for Linux
Yes, I'm finding the same - no support for JPEG XL in 1.8.0 under Linux (or Ubuntu 24.04 in my case). I've managed to get XnViewMP to display AVIF files, by putting a library link in XnView's lib folder to the system's libheif.so library. But I just can't figure out a way of getting XnView to display jxl files, despite the release notes stating support for LibJXL 0.10.3. XnView shows a placeholder in the Browser window for jxl files and by double-clicking that it will pass the file to the default image viewer (gThumb in my case) for display. Not even Ubuntu's bundled image viewer will display jxl files, hence my installation of gThumb. It's seems support for JPEG XL files is proving a challenge too far for Linux systems!
Re: JPEG XL for Linux
This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.8.1. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.

Running the Appimage under Ubuntu 24.04, XnViewMP successfully displayed my JPEG-XL test image.
Thanks Pierre for getting this working.

I am now running XnView MP 1.8.2 installed via .DEB in Linux Mint 21.3 and I do not have JXL working. Did you need to configure anything?cloudhopper wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 5:24 pm Running the Appimage under Ubuntu 24.04, XnViewMP successfully displayed my JPEG-XL test image.

No, I didn't need to configure anything on Ubuntu 24.04 to get XnView 1.8.1 to show my jxl files.
I noticed that Linux Mint 21.3 is based on Ubuntu 22.04, so I tried running XnView 1.8.1 on my VM install of Ubuntu 22.04. The AppImage version worked fine and showed my jxl files. When I unpacked and ran the tgz archive, that version of XnView also showed my jxl files.
I'd suggest you try the AppImage version of XnView as it should have less dependencies.
