adding metadata to files

Hi, I would like to add metadata for various files (not only images). Is that even possible? Because my outputs are images, videos or AAE projects etc. I already set some "keywords" to images so I can now search them by those keywords. But after that I find I can't add "keywords" to other files.
Is there some way to do it? Because for example I have a video where is some washingmachine in the bathroom and this video has specific ID. So I want to add keywords or tags or something to the video (waschingmachine, water, bathroom, 018559433ME (thats ID)) and after that I want to find this video just by searching those words. Thanks guys.
