Hi Pierre,
it's really strange...
"street to Þórsmörk" or "XÞórsmörk" work!
"Þ" work NOT!
So - it seems that the iclandic char "Þ" (U+00DE: Latin Capital Letter Thorn) at the first position is the problem.
best regards
Dirk

This sign (Latin Capital Letter Thorn) is changed to question mark (?) after writing it to Comment. Is it the problem?
I see similar problems with different characters as well (fe. U+0126 or U+0123).
Some problems with handling Unicode in Comment?

I have no question mark. Comment is complete empty.
For U+0126 or U+0123 XnView shows not the correct characters. It shows a normal "g" and a normal "H" - but that an other problem.
If you see a question mark, then your font(s) doesn't support this character.

Confirmed on my english version. I don't know if my OS is meant for those characters.
Metadata>Set comment writes: "test" but not "Þórsmörk".

Strange, this is standard Windows font (the one used by XnView), they all have complete Unicode support. Also I can use Þ in fe. Notepad.
This maybe however related to script used for font. In such case only users using Western script are able to confirm the problem.

I have such a problem some years ago: At that time not all windows fonts support the whole Unicode standard. The second problem is that some programms/tools use their own fonts.
But nowadays modern OS support normally Unicode.
Which font does XnView use?

Default, but don't use unicode

Okay. I used MS "Character Map" in order to choose this char from a Unicode font and copy'n'paste. But if I use a non-unicode font like Courier it doesn't work also.
There are existing rules/offical standards which char sets allowed for JPEG-Comment, EXIF-User-Comment or IPTC-Caption?
