Nikon Z8 files load/rating is very slow

Hello,

I've used XnView software for a few years now. I use it to rate files quickly after shooting, to limit the number of files I pull into Lightroom. I shoot somewhere in the range of 2,000-4,000 photos per shooting day, so XnView has been super handy. Files have always loaded extremely quickly in Viewer, and my keyboard shortcuts to rate and auto-advance to the next photo have been instant. However, with my newer Nikon Z8, it has become extremely sluggish, taking sometimes 5-15 seconds to rate and advance after hitting my shortcuts. My secondary camera is a Sony A7Riii with a similar MP sensor, and the file size difference is also negligible, so I don't understand what's going on here.

Is there a setting within the software that I need to tweak? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any help!

System settings:
XnView MP 1.7.1 64bit
MacBook Pro running Sonoma 14.5
2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB
32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

I've got it set to use the embedded preview already. Any other settings that could be tweaked to improve performance?

you have the delay when rating only? Viewing is quicker, right?
