Can we please get back to the original discussion ? Seems this topic was used for something else (video not playing at all for whatever reason)

I'm regularly blocked in managing video files because it's locked. This happened again tonight :? The main reason for this file lock is the video playing automatically (I should say systematically) in the browser. This situation prevents renaming, moving, deleting,...the video files
- The workaround is to temporarily untick the option "Autoplay (video)" in the settings (View section > tab Various)
- The drawback if you let this option unticked is the videos are no more played automatically in View mode, full screen, quick slideshow and slideshow :(

The solution is to reduce the influence of the Autoplay option so it's ignored by the browser mode* and only affects the other modes.
Can you please consider this ?

* The options exists to (not) show thumbnails of videos in the file list and (not) autoplay in the preview pane but the second is currently ineffective

@mods, its better to split messages (starting from this one) into separate topic as Teo hijacked OPs topic

video file is always locked in win file explorer when in focus in xnviewmp Browser tab (it gets worse with default autofocus )
this is not related to 'Autoplay (video)' or being opened in Preview (eg check with disabled video Preview in 1.4.5)

it would be nice not to have file lock
eg PotPlayer allows video file rename/move/delete while playing

related:
1.4.5 - viewer - error renaming video
XnView locks directory, can not be deleted till XnView is closed

Files can be locked for various reasons and is not specific to XnView (Adobe reader, LibreOffice even the Notepad). Yes, from time to time it happens with XnView as well and it's sometime difficult to understand why. A nice tool call LockHunter help identify what is locked and which application keeps control (sometime more than one).

Back to the topic, focusing on video clips. Unticking the Autoplay option resolves 99 % of the problems of video files locked. It happens because it's just playing in the browser. The problem is, few users would analyse and search the root cause and shout about XnView
It's also cumbersome having to go open the settings, untick the option, dothe change, get back to the settings to re-set the option
The solution is to reduce the influence of the Autoplay option so it's ignored by the browser mode* and only affects the other modes.
So, can we agree on my proposal, so Pierre can work on it and fix this old old story ?
