partial background-transparency for information-overlay

In options > view > fullscreen > text settings you can choose if there is a opaque background colour for the information-overlay. I propose to implement background-transparency (variable, 0-100%), so that the image is partially visible under the overlay. A small padding, so that the background is some pixels bigger in width and height, would be good too.
I made an example with an 50% transparent overlay:

I like this suggestion. It looks very "Pro" in your example...

Did you ever work with a mac? I like working with OS X, because it's a fresh looking and new OS with realy great graphic capabilities (core image functions, which can be used realy good for improved user guidance f.e. use of alpha channel for overlays or something like exposé with live preview of all apps).
Unfortunately there is no good image viewer app (apart from Aperture for raw images

). XnView in X11 is not realy adequate to OS X:(.
Support, indeed…

Hello !
- Indeed, I support that wish ! I guess it's a bit the same issue than about the watermarks we discussed that night
HERE.
- Hoping that Pierre'll consider both for a future version…

Hello !
- Thanks !
- I guess that there are several issues¦suggestions depending on the same lack of transparency able to be set in several functions…
- Looking at the date of the thread you quote above, it seems quite opportune to “
ring the bell” again !

Text with shadow seems to be the best solution IMHO. What do you think about it?
Advantages
1) Usually I want the file path to be displayed, resulting in a grey box streching nearly the whole image with, even though the following lines are very short. That's ugly. Example
2) Sometimes, the text is still hard to read. If I use grey/white/blue, a sky is problematic, green for flowers, red for sunset, yellow sand, black night pics. Example
=> A text with shadow (e.g. red text with black shadow) is extremely readable on all picture backgrounds I tried without introducing an ugly box distracting from the image. Text with shadow looks best & has maximized contrast with one black shadow 1px right+down, one black with 50% transparency 2px right+down, and two black with 25% transparency 1px right+up and left+down. Of course, for dark main color, white has to be used. Example
Your thoughts?

bump - in v1.98.8 there's still only the "box" but no "shadow" option
