I am surprised by your fast and affirmative reply. Thank you very much.
The output of my point-and-shoot camera is JPG. I think this is true for many such cameras. When I edit my photos to make changes such as cropping, color balance, etc., I transform the JPG to a TIF and make the edits, and then save the edited TIF and also save it as JPG. If I want to modify the picture later, I can go back to the TIF. I try only to resave the original JPG as a JPG one time so as to minimize the JPG artifacts.
I currently use three programs to edit my photos: IrfanView, PaintShop Pro 8, and Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10. PSP 8 can save EXIF and IPTC from JPG to TIF and from TIF to TIF, however the other two programs can't do this. So when I use them to make certain edits, the metadata is stripped away. I need some way to re-insert it back into the image.
I tried a program called Exifer, but it does not transfer metadata from JPG to TIF, nor from TIF to TIF. In my original request, I mentioned transfer of metadata from JPG to TIF, but it would also be useful to me and others if XnView could transfer metadata from TIF to TIF and from TIF to JPG. In fact, the more file types the program can support, the more popular and useful it would be.
Currently, the program I use to create and edit IPTC and simultaneously, XMP metadata is PixVue. However, PixVue can't edit, copy, or transfer EXIF data.
I currently have a point-and-shoot camera which produces only JPG, and just recently purchased a DSLR Nikon D50 which I use to produce the RAW files called NEF by Nikon.
Thank you,
