changed behaviour from 1.6.4 to 1.8 (jumps to folder after save)

Dear XnView community,
I use XnViewMP on linux for many years now, and I've created an xnview.ini file with my preferred configuration.
Today I've upgraded from 1.6.4 to 1.8.0 latest (using the deb file) and suddenly the following happens:
1) I open an image (View) in folder X
2) I modify the image (crop, etc) and save it in folder Y
3) I press cursor left/right to go to the next image, but with version 1.8 I'm suddenly navigating in folder Y (and not in folder X).
Before, xnview would stay with my viewer in folder X (even after saving an image to folder Y) and I could move to the next file, modify it, and save it in folder Y. I often have to modify multiple files (e.g. resize, crop, etc) and store the results in another folder.
But with version 1.8., the xnview viewer "jumps" to the folder where I saved the file. So I have to close XnView and open the next file in folder X (or I use the xnview browser: I close the view of an image, and open the next file via the xnview browser).
I didn't find the setting to change back to the previous behaviour. copying the old config file from 1.6.4 didn't help. It seems this setting disappeared or it was a default behaviour which has now changed?
XnViewMP is for me by far the best picture viewer - it is versatile, light, and can do basic image editings. if somebody can point me to the correct setting so the viewer stays in the folder where I opened a file, that would be great!
thank you,
