XnView: MP 1.8.2 64 bit
OS: Windows 64bit

When setting a rating for a picture after saving if you go back to the picture the rating is gone. When double checking on the Windows Explorer there is no rating whatsoever

Effect: Time wasted as I realized this issue after many ratings that were not saved

To reproduce:
1. Open any picture in XNView MP
2. Set a rating. I see the rating in the top left (star)
3. Go to next picture
4. Go back to picture in step 1. Picture will have no rating (no star)
Actual behaviour (bug): No ratings set through XnView MP are saved

Expected behaviour: Rating is kept after saving the picture

on jpeg? do you export the rating in embedded metadata?

Yes with jpeg files. I'm not extracting anything just adding a rating to the picture

It used to work before but i think i made an update not so long ago then I realized that the ratings were not saved after I go to the next picture and then back to the one i just rated

I usually went to the metadata> rating then set the rating and save the changes but when i go back it's like i didn't do anything

could you send your xnview.ini?

I can't find this file in the XnView program's folder

Where is that file located ?

yes, with 1.8.3, i can't reproduce. Perhaps send me a sample file used?

I just found something interesting. If i set the rating using metadata->Set rating it doesn't work(both gui and the ctrl+number shortcut)

But if i set the rating using Metadata->Edit XMP then set the rating there it works

Maybe the first option is not actually saving the XMP rating ?

I've tried with your .ini, i open the attached picture, 'Metadata->Set rating', Next file, Previous file and rating is here
you can reproduce like that?

Could you try to disable Settings>Misc>Read one image ahead & Keep current image?

I tried changing the setting mentioned but while the rating is set in XnView, when looking in Windows Explorer in the Details tab, there is no rating

It only shows the rating in explorer when doing in Metadata->Edit XMP but there is no direct keyboard shortcut to set the ratings there

It's working fine for me , XMP data are OK.

Except these two warnings :
- Overlay icon "XMP" is not created unless we use another method.
- When rating is already set with Windows, both XMP and EXIF are set .... but XnViewMP does not update exif when changing xmp rating level.

Did you check Settings>Catalog>Excluded ?
and obviously Settings>Metadata>Export rating...

if you want that Windows recognize rating, you need to enable 'Metadata>Export rating...'
