Maybe my understanding of "Auto zoom - Fit image to desktop" mode is incorrect, please correct me.
As I understand, "Fit image to desktop" mode should behave as "Fit window to image" on small images with 100% zoom and "Fit image to window width or height" on large images (only shrinking). In other words "Fit image to desktop" = "Fit window to image", limited by desktop size. XnView behaves so on scrolling images with default 100% zoom.
So, in mode "Fit window to image" when I do manual Zoom In or Zoom Out, window stretches or shrinks according to image size * zoom factor.
But in mode "Fit image to desktop" when I do manual Zoom In or Zoom Out, window does not stretch or shrink. Shouldn't window stretch or shrink like zooming in "Fit window to image" mode?

Thanks to your detailed description I can reproduce the problem.

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.8.4. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.
