When opening images from network shares, the image is initially displayed, but after about a second XnView switches to a seemingly random other image and the count of images in the directory, as indicated at the very left of the status bar, will have diminished by at least 1 (often more).
Browsing through images (with next/previous) will typically diminish the amount of images XnView recognizes further.

Testing in a directory with 1196 JPEG photos, XnView will *always* quickly move away from the image initially opened (and displayed correctly) and indicate 1195 images in the directory. Moving through the images will eventually diminish the amount of recognized images to 1052.

Sometimes, XnView will skip over several images before settling on one, the amount of recognized images greatly diminished.

Larger collections of images seem to make this behavior more likely; directories with 100-200 images will trigger this bug very rarely, while directories with over about 1000 images will always skip at least one image, and directories over 3000 images will often skip several images.

• Images skipped are briefly displayed correctly. XnView moves away from them without any user input.
• The amount of recognized images may decrease by more than images skipped.

Step to reproduce: Double click an image (in Windows Explorer) in a network share (mapped network drive) directory with many images.

Expected behaviour: Image is displayed indefinitely. All images are recognized and can be displayed.

you have this strange behavior only on network drive? Same with 1.8.4?

I don't have any directories quite that large locally, only a couple hundred images, but I've never noticed any weird skipping or disappearing then.

1.8.4 doesn't seem to skip the initially opened image anymore, but the indicated count of recognized images still drops when moving through them, and thus some images will never be shown.

Even with 'Filter by all'?

I'm not sure where "Filter by all" is, but XnView's own file browser filter is set to All / All, and yes it happens that way.

Copied the log as soon as I saw the indicated count of images in the status bar drop by 143 (from 1196 to 1053).

I replaced part of the file paths in the log with "[snip]" for my privacy.

do you have the problem even if you disable Settings>View>Misc- read ahead & keep current?

Yes, I've now tried all combinations of these two settings and they make no difference.

I've also taken a look at the logs of the remote Samba server, but there aren't any errors or warnings either.

you have only this problem on network drive not local drive? could you send me your .ini?

I've only noticed it on network drives. I copied the directory with 1196 images to my computer and noticed no skipping or diminishing numbers.

I also noticed that 1.8.4 does skip the initially opened file, after a few seconds, in a larger than previously tested remote directory (2500+ images this time), and will then proceed to quickly flick through a couple dozen images before settling on about ~1800 images.

Updated to 1.8.6: No discernable improvement or change.

i've tried with your .ini and a shared folder with 3000+ jpeg files, and no problem
