Hiding tabs

I would like to hide the tabs, the ones indicated with arrows in the attached screenshot. Doing it through the menu > View > Tab > Show only hides it for the particular asset that is being viewed and doesn't stick.
Is there a way to hide them permanently?

It works only once for the specific item that is currently open, for all others it doesn't work.
See the screenshot here, the option is unchecked yet the tabs show.

i can't reproduce with 1.8.6, could you send me your xnview.ini?
