Batch Converter : meta-data slow

A bug, in the sense of slower than expected.
If I drag 1000 JPG files (that originally came from a camera, now on an SSD) into the batch converter, in the input files section before you action anything it reads through and populates the meta data very slowly (eg 2-3 files per sec, I've not measured it exactly), as if it is reading the whole file rather than only the metadata. This means you have to wait for ages to sort on the relevant metadata. The SSD is not the fastest but shouldn't be this slow - void's Everything reads the meta data much much faster.
I would expect it would just need to read a partial amount of data and so should be much faster. Is this something that can be improved on, or something I can do at the user end to improve the speed? Primarily I am (in this particular case) sorting on dimensions or aspect ratio...
Cheers, David
