Hi

I've tried to open an avif, but XnView MP 1.8.7 under Linux Mint 20.3 only shows error message: "Fehler beim Öffnen der Datei" (Error on opening file).
I can open the file with an online viewer, so the file should be OK.

Do anybody know what is going wrong?

do you have libheif?

Synaptic says, that libheif1 v1.6.1-1build1 is installed.

libheif is an ISO/IEC 23008-12:2017 HEIF file format decoder. HEIF is a
new image file format employing HEVC (h.265) image coding for the best
compression ratios currently possible.

I think that is what you mean.

OK, libheif was the right hint and the problem was rely on an Linux issue.
I 've tested with Mint21.3 where it worked.
Then I've installed a newer version of libheif from strukturag (unfortunateley with some error messages and now I can open the avif-pictures.
