1.8.7 not outputting orientation correctly

I upgraded to 1.8.7 last week, and noticed a bug. It's not outputting the camera orientation correctly.

On 1.8.6 and 1.8.7:
  1. Open Xnview MP
  2. Navigate to a photo
  3. Select Tools-Batch Convert
  4. Verify "preserve metadata" is checked.
  5. Click convert
Looking at the exported photo on 1.8.6, and it shows the correct orientation when viewing in irfanview and windows explorer (rotated from landscape 90 degrees clockwise to portrait)

Looking at the exported photo on 1.8.7, and it shows the photo sideways in landscape mode in irfanview and windows explorer.

Running fc in binary compare in powershell shows one difference:

Code: Select all

fc.exe /b IMG_0058-1.8.6.JPG IMG_0058-1.8.7.JPG
Comparing files IMG_0058-1.8.6.JPG and IMG_0058-1.8.7.JPG

Original file is 5.5 MB and attachment limit is 2MB so I used 7zip to split it and I'm attaching those files.

Filenames were originally
IMG_0058.7z.001
IMG_0058.7z.002
IMG_0058.7z.003

they may need to be renamed to unpack

A download link is normally best if you can provide one... :D

If you have a Google account, you could upload the original file to Drive and then post a download link enabled for anyone to download the file.

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.8.8. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.
