XnView: MP 1.8.8-1.9.0 64 bit
OS: Windows 64bit

I use quick filters to sort my photos a lot.
I noticed that adding + (and) and | (or) to filters works differently and inconsistently:
* no partial match with +
* no mixing different search sources like category and name

To reproduce:
1. Click Quick filter menu, select Search in Categories
2. Add multiple categories, eg "Cats" and "Dogs"
3. Create multiple images, eg image1.png, image2.jpg, image3.jpg
4. Assign categories:
- Cats -> image1.png
- Dogs -> image2.jpg
- Cats, Dogs -> image3.jpg

5. Search "cat+dog" in quick filter
Actual behaviour (bug): Nothing is found
Expected behaviour: image3.jpg is found

When I search "cat" or "cat|dog" (part of the category) I've got all the results I expect, but + filter doesn't respect partial match.

6. Search "cats+png"
Actual behaviour (bug): Nothing is found
Expected behaviour: image1.png is found

When I search "png" or "cats|png" (category with extension) I've got all the results I expect, but + filter doesn't work with different search sources.

I've tried and it works correctly. 'Categories (catalog)' is enabled?

Categories are embedded into image.

ok, if search whole work it works.
Thanks to your detailed description I can reproduce the problem.

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.9.1. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.

Partially fixed (1.9.1 x64, Windows 10 x64).
Filter with two categories 'кот+пес' now works as intended.
Filter category and format 'кот+jpg' still finds nothing.

jpg is not in categories

It surely is not.
But I find it extremely useful to search by multiple properties at the same time, since 'кот|jpg' works with category and format/name.
Eg I usually search for images with specific subject (category) which I have already edited (format jpg, not raw).

you can add 'thumbnail labels'

what kind of search is it ?

maybe add/use 'simple search' by default (with simple wildcards * ? )
Browser - quick filter - improve search settings

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.9.2. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.
