Thank you very much Pierre!
the sencond ones looks great on white background
Yes, it looks thousand times better than grey!
Please make this icon default, everywhere - in xnview, forum, favicon, (with white backgound maybe). Old 'grey' icon looks awful to this one.

Please start a new topic, I'll reply there.

Main icon 'problem' again - there is just a new default transparent icon, but it looks bad on dark backgrounds (blue/black) and it looks worse even on white background.
This icon looks perfect on white background - http://www.xnview.com/beta/test2.ico - could you make this icon (with white background, if needed) default please?
Current icon -

Other icon -
And could you add also other icons (with white/black background) to xnview.exe?
Maybe you could create new exe with many icons and we could test it on many backgrounds...
Thanks.

So you would like that i add test2.ico with others icons, right?
But for me test2.ico is really bad... Even on dark desktop...

Then it should be used with white background by default IMO, it would be better, later we could try to improve transparent icon...
Could you upload exe with all icons, so that we could test them all in different backgrounds?

I use the icon from danilloOc (see in previous posts)
We have only 2 icons, the transparent one (with current exe), or old one (with grey square). You want another with white square?
Perhaps the problem is only the 16x16 icons? Not 32x32 or 48x48??

From my point of view, we need an icon with NO background at all; the current gray square is the worst, but ANY square background of whatever color would be awful when displayed 16x16 in the title bar and in the taskbar buttons. This is the main concern IMHO, since icons in the titlebar and taskbar cannot be changed and use the hardcoded one... for shortcuts etc. one can always choose a different icon altogether, for whatever size is needed.
Now I'm going to re-download 1.82 and see... anyway I liked most the test2 icon

OK, redownloaded... and like it

; I still believe the other icon
http://www.xnview.com/beta/test2.ico would be better, but this is already definitely better than the old one. I noticed one icon has a dark border, the other one a white one... maybe no border at all would be best?
Anyway, thanks Pierre for changing it!

Yes, but also icon with white background/square please.

Not really, icon test2 looks good with white background only, test1 with dark background only. You don't know what color have user in the title bar.
Therefore I really think, default icon should be with white background/square or partially transparent, white ellipse...
Some ideas:

Right. But we need a 'perfect' icon for all backgrounds, otherwise icon with background should be used.

Sure, but currently at least 98% of all icons in whatever style you like are created with NO background at all and work PERFECTLY both on dark and light background... we'd be the only ones unable to get an icon straight without a background

I tested my icon (the original with just the grey removed) on white and dark blue and IMHO it wasn't bad in both cases, that's why I suggested to remove the border; furthermore, I clearly understand this is an issue of personal taste, but in a world where the only "backgrounds" are at most translucent or shiny buttons with rounded corners (more or less

) we should definitely throw ANY geometrical flat background out of the window... unless it's _transparent_, of course
Also, the simple fact that a light border looks good on a light background and a dark border looks good on a dark background should be enough to remove the border altogether, since in both cases it almost cannot be seen, being very similar to the background. If the main color was very light or very dark we'd need a border to make it stand out on a similarly-colored background, but luckily orange stands out by itself in both cases.

I'd like transparent icon too, but current icon looks too bad IMO (check my new screenshots above). If there will be icon, good looking on all backgrounds then we could use it, otherwise we should use background.

Hello !
- About icons : to content everybody, please think to an external set of icons able to replace the embedded ones.
- In example, as an ICL (we miss save muti-page as ICL still…), set by an option or via an INI entry as well (like in Total Commander…)
• Aside : Nobody is bound to use the embedded icons for the file types if s¦he doesn't like them… Personally, I use the external icons I want for…

Kind regards,
Claude

But here you have not the good icon!!! It's not the icon in xnview exe...

Here's what the current icon looks like "in action": 16x16 on a light background (white, an Explorer window) and on a dark background (blue, Royale Windows theme, application title and taskbar button). Of course we could do better (with the help of a graphics professional

) but it looks much better than the original "grey button" icon IMHO. You should also keep in mind that 16x16 is not an easy size to deal with, there's too few pixels, and also that the XnView logo is not an easy one to convert to an icon, being mostly an outline.
I'd really keep this icon until there's anybody on the forum or elsewhere (I remember reading there are forums in which you ask for a logo, graphics etc. and people are glad to help, there was a forum member which had his avatar designed by one of these people) able and willing to design a NEW logo and icon for XnView 2.0 (if the new release introduces DeLuxe features and a "real" thumbs database, I wouldn't call it "just" 1.83

).
Oh, and BTW, the icon that I DON'T like is the folder tree with that white background, in the menubar... I'd replace it with the main icon.
