Not possible. There is a well writtenarticle in a recent topic about this subject.

Possible, but only in Thumbnails & Labels view - go to Options > Browser > Thumbnails > Labels - and choose "Filename (without extension)", then choose Thumbnails & Labels view in browser.

I am a very experienced user. I used to show fileextensions in the explorer too. But I found it much more comfortable to disable the extensions. Especially when renaming the extension is only annoying and you always have to keep in mind to not destroy it. I mean .. if you have 20 .txts to rename by hand, because of special names, you put the ".txt" extension over and over again at the end. But its completely obvoius that ist a txt and I'd do anything but changing the filetype at these files. Because thats the ONLY reason I use the extensions for. And say seriously how often do you change a files type??!? Once a month? hardly.

With extensions enabled its very likely to have the type changed accidentally.

Ask how I see its a jpg or a psd? Well the files have Icons. Even xnView puts very noticeable icons at the images in explorer. An furthermore the files have a "type" shown in detail-mode of the explorer(wich I have always turned on). Even if programs destroy the File types (like eg winamp does "Winamp Media File" for .mp3, .wav, .ogg ....) Its not hard to recover the file type or completely set up your own filetypes via folderoptions or even regedit (like I did)

The given option to disable file extensions in xnView via the Tumbnails & Labels View is not satisfying. If you do a rename (F2) the extension is shown again :[

So I beg you guys: Please Please Please offer an option for the experienced user to hide file extensions in the browser even on rename!!! (An alternate option whould be to show the renaming dialog in the browser just the way like its in the imageview! I mean to have the name and the extension in seperated fields.)

Finally its your viewer.. but I set up "hide extensions" totally conscious! So its a way of forcing the user to see things like you do. I'm also very sad about a lot of people not recognizing whats behind the hood. But to retain such a function for peeps that are really looking for it is like the guys of trillian that want every user to use that crappy marked-text-automatically-to-clipboard function.

Thank you for your comments and veto, eweryboooody. "Our" viewer is for everybody, so we have to care what eweryboooody says.
Honestly, I more and more think that using the renaming dialog for all situations is a good thing. Let's continue discussion in topic "2 Feature Requests for File Renaming".
