Alien Skin Splat and the .rfr format

Hi-
Splat has a feature for creating stylized frames around an image. In order to use this feature one must access content files for the frames which are stored in .rfr files.
Now I've picked up a number of extra frames, and would like to be able to see thumbnail of them so that I can weed out duplicates and really ugly ones.
The good news is that XnView reveals the image in what must be the preview window. The bad news is that it does not create thumbnails for them. I tried using high quality, embedded, and both embedded and high quality but to no avail. This would not require a restart would it?
I'm not sure I understand "items to be displayed" I always want thumbnails when they are available for all image formats. I assume if I check all of the items in each othe the two thumbnail columns that should be fine.
Incidentally, they display with the PSD emblem from photoshop CS2 which is curious since they are not psd files (according to extention). changing to PSD does not effect how XnView handles them (ie preview but no thumbnail) the file i am looking at now is black and white (most are color) 28kb in size and 450 x 450 px in dimension.
Actually XnView even in this mode will be very useful. I can compare preview windows of splat and XnView. Still, would be glad to know what I'm doing wrong (if I am)

Hi HandsOff!
Okay,
i looked it up: Splat! frames are actually Paint Shop Pro Picture Tube files whose extensions have been changed to RFR. A Picture Tube (.TUB/.PspTube), in turn, is a specially layed out .PSP/.PspImage file. This means: RFR = PSP.
Is there a
"Application"="Photoshop.exe" entry in the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.rfr subkey of your Windows registry? If so, that could be the culprit.
Assuming you are familiar with
editing the registry, I suggest you remove the entry (after
backing it up).
It might also be worth a try to set
Scan file headers in folders to
Always or to un-check
Recognize only by extension in XnView's
Options pane (
Browser »
File List).

Thanks for all the info, but I think I rushed in and changed something I should not have, because now some of my folders that I had associated custom icons for,now a just manilla folders!
This probably is because I changed the "items to be displayed" I have to admit this is an option that I do not understand, however, if worst comes to worst I can reset to the defaults
The thing that is still bothering me is the fact that I can have both "use high quality" and "use embedded thumbnail" check at the same time. Is this not an either/or scenario? I'm still not sure how I should set it, "use high quality" or both?
anyway, if you or anyone could shed any light on this...

Displayed items…

The table in this Options page enables defining 3 things:
- what items are displayed if Filter of Browser's file list is set to Custom
- what items are displayed as thumbnails in Thumbnails modes and what is fielsize limit for such display
- what items are displayed in Browser's preview and what is fielsize limit for such display
Filesize limits speed up work with very big files, when creating thumbnail or rendering preview takes long time. However, when you decide to View file above limit, it will be displayed.
Columns:
- 1st column defines if item is shown Thumbnails modes
- 2nd column defines if item is thown in modes other than Thumbnails
- 3rd column defines maximum filesize for which thumbnails are created and items for which thumbnails are created in Thumbnails modes (for others standard Windows icons are used)
- 4th column defines maximum filesize for which preview is shown and items for which preview is displayed.
Some non-obvious issues:
- XnView decides what is an image/video/etc. using file recognition settings in 'Browser>File list' and its own internal file to filetype assignment list, which cannot be changed
-
Thumbnail for folder is "4-in-1" thumbnail like in Windows
- 'All other files' are all unrecognized files. Their list may depend on file recognition settings in 'Browser>File list'.
- 'Custom files' overrides settings for any other item, so you may fe. exclude one image type or include some video type unknown by XnView.
- AFPL Ghostscript is required for AI/PS/PDF thumbnail/preview display and viewing.

Show thumbnail for file shortcut – If checked, XnView displays thumbnail for a file that shortcut points to. Otherwise, displays standard Windows icon for the shortcut. Also, on shotcut thumbnails there's Windows' 'shorctut arrow' overlayed.
Show info icons – If checked, overlays small info icons on thumbnail. Avaliable info icons are: EXIF data present, IPTC data present, embedded thumbnail used, image rotated using EXIF info.
Use high quality - Use high quality rendering for thumbnails display.
Use embedded thumbnail – Use thumbnails embedded in JPG or digital camera RAW file
(any other formats?) as a base for thumbnail creation (instead of the image itself). This speeds up thumbnail creation.
