Yes, not yet implemented
no animated gif preview?
No, you have gif preview
thumbs very quick, but large files (5MB+) extremly slow to view and even preview.
which format?
no right click drag to copy or move
lft clk move only or the "copy to"
Sorry i don't understand?
no off line reading and catalog of cd or other media
Not yet.
Pierre.
Hi, Pierre:
I hope some of these are problems and not design, because I really like the program. If I understood all your replies:
No off line cataloging of files - future plan
No PhotoShop PSD write - future plan
No animated GIF - only static gif view?
Can not right mouse drag files to move or copy as in Windows Explorer - I'm trying to remember now (it not installed) - can only use left click drag move or the "copy to" in the menu?
Only other annoyance I remember was that from full screen browse mode, you couldn't dbl click to exit back to the folder/file lists, but I may have missed some other method besides clicking on the button to exit, and I suppose that's just habit
I do a lot of scans of drawings and they end up around 5mb BMPs grayscale and then they get edited and end up as psd files about the same size or as big as 40-50 mb when stitched together as full color files. XnView and Deluxe are probably just as fast as ACDSee at thumb generation, and the cache feature really works nicely, but the preview window generation, and the full screen browse through of folders when they have large images are painfully slow. I also noticed this while looking through a cd of Kodak PCD files at high res 3022x2048x24 they were only about 3.5-4.5 mb each, but again, the program just bogs down in the preview window or in the full screen browse windows with about 3 second waits for each file to load. I also tried setting the load ahead feature in preferences, it helped, but not while advancing continuously. I viewed the same CD and files with ACDESee and there was no lag.
I'm not trying to bash your program, I'm very impressed with it and I like the very clean, well done interface. I've looked at Thumbs+, Conpupix, and some others and I was most impressed with your deluxe version of XnView, especially the fact that it supports viewing of Xara xar files and the CoralDraw previews and many other files.
I did not spend the time to explore the data base capability of XnView... in ACDSee I use some catagories which are customizable, but mostly, when I do use the data base, it's to indicate ratings which I can then sort by or search for. Another reason I don't use it more is that in ACDSee v6.0.3 they have been having so many problems with it and I don't want to risk loosing a bunch of cataloging work.
Thanks,
