Prior to v1.80 of XnView pictures were not centered automatically on screen if they didn't fit in the window. Version 1.80 introduced this new auto-centering feature as discussed in this thread.

While for photographs or other images it might be nice to have the picture automatically centered on screen there are also cases where this behaviour is slightly annoying.

One example is when you are looking at scanned pages from a magazine or paper that don't fit within the XnView window vertically. Every time you open a new file (in this case a new page) the view automatically scrolls to the middle of the page. So you have to scroll to the upper boundary on every page.

So my proposal is to make this auto-centering a user configurable feature to be able to activate or de-activate it depending on current viewing habits. Another option would be a "lock position" feature analogous to the "lock zoom feature" where you would scroll the image like you want it to and lock this image position for all subsequent images.

You have "reset X/Y" now

Yes but that only works when "lock zoom" is disabled here. If I want to keep a certain zoom level (e.g. 100%) it won't work.

That currently works under certain conditions (if you want to use other mode): General>Switching Mode> Browser <>Fullscreen Viewer|Fullscreen. Navigating pictures using browser + F11.

So Reset X/Y must be when lock zoom is enabled too???

In my case, yes.

I use XnView to look at scans from old magazines. With previous versions I used to set zoom to 100%, then lock zoom and look at the files / pages one by one. Every page would start at the top which was good since that's the point where one would like to start reading.

Now with the recent versions of XnView I have two options which are both not fully satisfying:
1. Use lock zoom but have every new page centered vertically so I have to scroll to the top of every new page
2. Use "Fit image to window width" or "Fit image to window height" and "Reset X/Y" and accept that the images will have a too big / small amount of zoom

I agree. I like the next text picture to start at top with "lock zoom 100%"

Did this change make it into 1.90? Didn't find anything about it in the Changelog.

It is in the changelog as added feature. I followed a link in it directly to this thread.

i'm mainly a "full-screen-user", inspecting photos, esp. their sharpness with Xnview, therefore loving the "keep-zoomed"-mode. in an older version i still got installed on my workstation (1.82.4), in this mode on image-switch the zoom is kept, and the position always is the center of the image - good.

but with the recent versions i've tried on my laptop position is always the upper left corner, and as far as i can see i can't change this behaviour for my preferred full-screen mode is that right? could this be changed again?
