is there a way to change the default result of clicking and dragging a thumbnail to a directory in the browser? the default result is to move the image file to the selected directory. i need the result to be a copy of the selected image file in the selected directory.
thanks,
david

Hi !
• This is the Win behaviour…
- Use D&D+
Ctrl (keep pressed) to
copy the file, it works here…

Kind regards,

I don't know, I no longer use any Linux OS for ages…
- I think that this question in the Un*x section here should get an answer…;)

any way to switch this behavior? meaning the default clicking and dragging results in a copy and '+ Ctrl' results in a move?
Not yet…

Hi !
• Currently, we can't, AFAIK…
- However, I guess it might be possible; we have a similar feature in
Total Commander :
¤ D&D only –> Copy
¤ D&D +
Shift (or
Alt) –> Move
• To propose in the
Alpha section here, maybe ?

Kind regards,
Claude

yeah, i it's an important option for me so i'll propose it in the Alpha sub-forum. when i teach people how to manage digital images i instruct them to make copies of their originals prior to manipulation. so from within xnview having the copy function be the default for d&d will be less confusing for them.

I use the same behaviour than Windows explorer...

Good evening,
I use the same behaviour than Windows explorer...
… which is quite crappy and inconvenient, this is not a good reason to continue in that way…
• I can assume you that the requested behaviour is possible and much more logical and pleasant to use…
- D&D = copy is fast and natural, then adding any modifier-key to move does the trick !
- I use that in TC for almost ten years ! The Explorer method is really a pain in the neck to handle files & folders…

The Explorer method is standard: I don't have any application that would copy files on drag&drop -> people are used to this standard and will actually expect it. Otherwise they will get copies of their files everywhere on the drive when what they wanted was just to move them as usual.

I must say that I don't like too much the idea of adding an option for this: those users will happen to manipulate files through Windows Explorer and/or XnView and will be confused if they behave differently. It would be more efficient to explain how to copy files and how to move files.
However, one thing that is lacking in XnView, in my point of view, is he ability to drag&drop files with the Right Mouse Button with a popup to select action (Move/Copy/Cancel)... just like in Windows Explorer.
One, two… Left, right…

Hi !
• Which "Standard" ? The M$ one? Let's march and
Hail Billou !
- Legion of TC users can say you that D&D for copy is much better !
- And the
besonen's request for an option is logical and reasonable.

this would be a great enhancement.

this is why i suggested it be an optional setting. the default setting would be the standard that you prefer.

Hello !
• When we have a version on tests (in the case it was still the Alpha series…), we have some special section¦s
to report bugs and to propose improvements.
- But when the final version is out, these sections are removed, so, right,
currently the “Suggestions” section is the appropriate one…
