I see some dlls in AddOn folder, but it still can't directly read files in archives.
Do I miss anything?
Or is this function not yet implemented?

Hi !
• This works here -at least I tested RAR and ZIP prior-
- However, the TXT files are not shown inside the thumb-nails : There are empty white areas… But the text is displayed in the Preview and the default editor.
- *.CAB doesn't seem to work, but there are two kinds of CABs, I ought test more…
- *.ARJ doesn't work, nothing displayed… Not planned, there is not any DLL…
- *.ACE works at display, but for text-files, we have a crash in the <UNACEV2.DLL>,
while the default text editor is opened alright.
- Strange, because Total Commander uses exactly the same DLL,
and all works fine when editing text-files from an *.ACE archive…

So, it should work now?
I can't try it out. Does anybody know why?
I choose to show archives in thumbnail mode.
When I double-click the archive, nothing happens.

Im using XnView 1.90 alpha 2 and have tryed to open 3 types of archives (zip, 7z, and cab) created with TUGZip and 7-Zip and only the cab are showed well. The 7z are only show the first 2 thumbnails correctly and after repetly the second tumbnail to other.. For zip only show like text files..
See my screenshot:

Off course i can send to you the zip files... But i tink they allways do the same wen i create zip or 7z files, using the
TUGZip and
7-Zip programs. Maybe the best are create archives you and test them in your computer. But if you want i can send to you samples to mail or with Messenger Live.

Hello Pierre !

*.SQX archives too ?

HERE.
- SC and TC file-managers users have it… and much more, just see on the site ;)

I'm strongly against this archive feature, my reason is simple, if XnView crashes while it's in a open archive all those files will be left extracted in your temp folder and you'll have to clean them up manually!
Given XnView track record for crashes even with stable release, this feature should only be enabled for advanced users who know the risks.

Placing extracted files from each archive in a unique temporary subdirectory might help with the clean-up issue? "Drive:\temporary\xnview\<random>"
Mine to clean !

Hello B. !
- I agreee, XnView might have its own temp-dir, even in its own folder IMHO.

No, XnView extract only one file, not all
