Thanks guys, but VirtualDub is not exactly the kind of editor i'm looking for. I need transitions, soundediting, effects etc. I know Avid has a free version at
http://www.avid.com/freedv/, has anyone tested this? It more for homevideo-editing-purposes.

Troken, did you find anything better than "Windows Movie Maker" because I'm looking for one as well.

Hi Ckit,
well I found out that Avid has a free version of their software, only thing you have to do is register I think. Should be pretty good, haven't tried it out yet though, but Avid has a reputation of being proffesional, so I guess it could be good.

Another free program I found is Wax, but it's more similar to After Effects. Should do the job though.
http://www.debugmode.com/wax/
Wax can load and
use VirtualDub filters, DirectX plugins, Freeframe plugins and Windows Movie Maker presets inside Wax or your NLE when using Wax as a plugin.
If somebody tries the programs, please post a review!
Im thinking of buyin Adobe Premiere Elements 3, its not free but fairly cheap, and it seems to be powerful.
EDIT:
There is also OpenVIP...
http://openvip.sourceforge.net/ You'll find screenshots in the pages with documentation.

Windows Movie Maker
I can't consider this one as "free"

Avid Free DV only handles MOV files so it is useless.
Debugmode Wax looked promising but crashes when I go to load it.
I'll take a look at OpenVIP now.

Sadly, development on VirtualDub MPEG-2 has ceased as the author has lost interest in it.
I'm hoping VirtualDubMod will merge MPEG-2 support and WMV\ASF support into VirtualDubMod.
RIP - VirtualDub MPEG2 v1.6.15.
