hello,

i couldn't find anything in the forum, so therefore i start a new thread:

i have lot of pictures from my digi-cam in format 4:3 (1600x1200 pix). i want to bring them to the paper and therefore i need a format 3:2 (i.e. 15 x 10 cm).

there is a function within the xnView where i can resize or crop some picutes.
but: the program doesn't recognize the size and it doesn'T check the format (landscape or portrait)! so if i have a 1600x1200 pix foto and i set crop (x=0, y= 67 (=offset), 1600, 1067) i'll get the right output.
but if the foto is 1200x1600 (rotated), the program crops wrong: 1200 x 1067 and that is not, what i want!

so is there any easy possibility just to crop my fotos in the correct way.
or where can i get some script for the nconvert?

or maybe someone can recommend any other tool?

Sorry i don't understand, select the selection size to 15x10 or 10x15 to make the crop!

I think he wants to crop portrait and landscape images in a single operation. Don't know about a program that does this. This can easily be done in two operations, but then you first have to handpick either portrait or landscape images to a separate folder.

i've said: if the picture is 1600x1200 (=landscape) - it's not a problem. but if it's 1200x1600, the program works wrong.

i want to crop via batch-job more hundreds picures. some of them are landscape, some other portrait. i don't want to pick up each of them and select whether it's landscape or not. i want to do it _automaticly_ via batch-job, not manually!

you're right: there are too many pictures on my drive to select them separately. so i want to do it in the one batch-job and crop them all (i.e. running my PC for 1 hour or longer). don't want to pick up every portrait-format and pass it via txt-file to the programm - it cost too much time.

the program/macro/script/... should recognize, whether the picture (foto) is landscape or portrait and crop it correctly.
any idea how to do that?

i think the thing i'm asking for is your "or" (15x10 _OR_ 10x15) - how to put it in ONE batch job!
and how to decide whether 15x10 _OR_ 10x15?

I have the same problem invers. I have the pictures from my cam in 2:3 and make some desktop pictures in 4:3. I have solved the problem this way: I have two scripts one for landscape one for the others. First I look at the pictures in the brower with detailed view (F10). Then I sort by properties which are the files' width and height. Now I can select all landscape files and run one script. Afterwards I select the other files and run the other script. My changed files will be stored in a different folder than the original.
If you want to select the area of every picture individually you can also use the sort by property and then use selection ratio 3:2 for the portrait pictures and as soon as the landscape pictures come you switch to 2:3.
Perhaps you should check the program JPEGCrops. This program can crop the pictures lossless.
