Search boxes for categories

Please put before every category name a selection box.
This can be used to search images with many categories. You select "dog" and "kid" and get all pictures of dog with kid.
Please add options for AND and OR for search, and NOT to invert search result. Please add option to "Include child categories" for selected categories in search- for example so to easy search any family memeber in Rome.
All these option should be put into right-click menu, as I can not see a better place in current design.
Also Tools>Search can be extended to include Ratings/Labels/Categories, for more detailed searches.

I second that! This would be great!

OK.
And another option "Current category only" to quickly clear checkboxes and return from some complicated selection.

What do you means by 'current cat only"?

"Current category only": I mean if you mark many categories (like "dog", "John", "home", "play" to find images of John playing with dog at home) it is uncomfortable to unmark categories one-by-one. It is easier to unmark with "Current category only", which unmarks all selection boxes and makes last selected category active.
Let me here also desribe here how it is possible to use Categories panel for both searching (selecting) and assigning Categories:
-You need to add another option-switch to context menu- "Assign mode" (you can also, instead of menu, add mini toolbar, like on
this image.
-When in Assign mode, background color for Categories panel changes to avoid confusion
-Clicking on categories names (or Drag and Drop as well) *assigns* image to category. After assigning, category changes colour.
-Take note, checkboxes still work as for search. This way you can Search and Assign in the same time.
-The difference between modes is actually changing what happens when user clicks category name and changed background.
-In both modes, color of category image is assigned to is changed.

"(dog OR bird) AND home" is different from "dog OR (bird AND home)"
(first = dogs+birds at home; second = all dogs +birds at home)
You can't guess what is right because it will depend on what the user expect
(and relationship between elements). I wanted to avoid the problem completely
here, but it might be worth trying further.
=> Question: how would you arrange and group those elements with a straightforward interface?
I tend to think that a simple AND (for all) would be fine here.

No, possible searches are:
dog and John and play and ...= John playing with dog
Jane or Margaret or ... = all images with Jane or Margaret
not (dog and John and play and ...) = all other pictures than John playing with dog
not (Jane or Margaret or ...) = all images without Jane and at the same time without Margaret
There is also important question- if images in subcategories belong at the same time also to all its parent categories. It should be configurable, but for this version the answer can be NO I think.

I think a lot can be done to improve categories in the future...
Anyway -> Postponed.
