Code: Select all
tom@raptor ~ $ xnview picture.jpg
** XnView v1.68.1 Copyright 1991-2004 Pierre-E Gougelet (Feb 17 2004/13:52:01) **
Version for Linux x86/Motif (All rights reserved)
** This is freeware software (for non commercial use)
Type xnview -help, for more information
X Error of failed request: BadName (named color or font does not exist)
Major opcode of failed request: 45 (X_OpenFont)
Serial number of failed request: 1269
Current serial number in output stream: 1434
That error occurs when I try to open any image. It happens (with different serial numbers) when I open xnview and go to file->open, view in hex, browse, capture, etc.
It looks like a font problem but I'm not sure what the problem could be. No other applications have crashed like this on my computer before.
I'm using Gentoo Linux and X.org 6.8.0.

Can you tell me which fonts XnView uses so that I may find out which ones are be missing?

Take a look at the app-defaults/XnView in the package.
Pierre.

Thank you. I still can't figure out which font is missing. I tried looking for the fonts in xfontsel and all the ones listed in app-defaults/xnview.ad are working in xfontsel.

OK somehow I fixed it.
I commented out a section in my /etc/fonts/local.conf file that had to do with prefer_outline and it started working again. yay

I have exactly the same problem and still can't figure out the way to solve it.
As Epyon suggested I commented out prefer_outline section in /etc/fonts/fonts.conf ( I don't have local.conf there ), but it didn't work. :/
Any other ideas?

I forgot to post back here that my solution did not work.
The program now opens but when you try to go to any of the menu selections like open or browse, or anything that has another window popping up it crashes again. I'm still trying to figure out the problem here.

Actually I thought that was your problem. I never had any other. Program runs and I can even view files in browser, but most of the dialogs like "Open", "Save as" etc.. dont work.
If you'll find any way to fix this, please let me know.

Well actually I tried it again and I can get into the browse screen but pretty much nothing else.

I'll install a FC or Gentoo to see the problem.
