Info symbol inflation

In XnView 1.82 we have various info icons. And in XnView 1.90 we will have another info symbol "XMP". And there will be ratings. And there will be tag boxes. That's many info icons and all these symbols will cover the thumbnail.

To reduce this symbol inflation I think it would be good to introduce a more fine tuned display of info symbols. Some people want to know whether thumbnails are embedded or not, whereas for other it doesn't matter.

I think there should be single checkboxes for activating/deactivating the display of info symbols.

Yes!

Ok, in a new panel of thumbnail option??
A choice for all icons?

Options might do it. I love the icons, but I'd use far from all of them, so to turn some off would be appreciated. (Though I don't consider this as a high-priority-matter)

Hej Troken, I don't consider this as a high-priority-matter as well :) To be honest: I don't care yet, as it's not that many icons so far. Maybe it'll be important for XnView 2.90 ;) Hej då, Georg

Even better would be a way to choose which corner of the thumb to show each symbol (as energetically discussedhere).

Here is how LightRoom does it:

Hej du!
Right, at the moment it no worries, but there are suggestions about rating-icons, colour-icons, rotation-icons and so on, so it might look messy if all are implemented.

Actually, I remember testing XnView the first time (after trying IrfanView and FastStone, bah! :? ) and I was really impressed with the EXIF and IPTC-icons and I still like them. With that entusiasm, maybe its easy to get blind with all the suggestions and just fill the thumbnails with icons, just because the idea is swell, but the actual look just becomes cheesy.

I see, that's right, so we shall already do some brainstorming :)

Me too :) BTW: In 1.9alpha3 the EXIF rotation icon is away:?: In options > Browser > Thumbnails, I have "show info icons" on. What do I have to change? It's important as windows default viewer is unable to rotate based on EXIF info, so before handing a pic to someone I have to rotate it...Thanks! :)

Now it works again (1.90beta2) even though I can't recall to have changed any settings. Anyway, I'm fine again :)

To select which icons are displayed, we now have Option ... Browser>Thumbnails>Icon info>File info
--->Closed.

Which but not where…

:) Hi B. !

• We can choose which icons are displayed, but not where they are located… :|

- So, IMHO, this issue is not quite solved definitely…

Right. So I move it 'Postponed' = to be discussed for a future version (not 1.90).
