Export 2 multipage PDF doesn't autorotate pics & fails 4

Post by GeorgD »

(No dupe of http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=6098)

The creation of multipage PDFs is great; I just discovered it and love it! :-)

1) No auto-rotate: Select some images (some of them being in landscape but containing the EXIF rotate flag), create, multi-page file, PDF, create. View the pdf. The images in question were not auto-rotated :bug:, even though XnView 1.9b2 rotates a) the EXIF thumb, b) the preview, c) the image itself. This is inconsistent and the only reason to rotate the image - a step I'd love to skip...

2) Media files provoke errors: Moreover, when AVIs are in the file list, XnView throws an error message during PDF creation (with title "warning", what is not appropriate BTW). Personally, I don't believe the error message :bug: "Format of the file ... could not be determined" as XnView usually displays the AVIs perfectly well - so it can determine the file type... ;-) Anyway. The PDF is created and can be opened and contains all images until the AVI, and from the page of the AVI, all pages are empty - even though the image after the AVI is a binary copy of the first (successfully added) image; so XnView seems not to try to add the image :bug:. Off topic: But at least XnView stays responsive - when I tried to attach media files using Acrobat 6 Standard, an error message appears and clicking OK makes the message appearing again - infinite loop *ggg* Yea, I see, I shall have bought the professional version for professional coded code ;-)

3) No clear naming: Lastly, the checkbox "All Pages/Images" is not at all self-explaining...what does it stand for? I mean, all images in the list are added also when this checkbox is not checked :?:

Right

When i create PDF, i need the number of files, so if some of them are bad, the pdf will be strange...

If you add a multi page tiff, all pages will be added...

Right
Sounds like there might come an improvement :-)

Hm, okay, I see. Two questions
2a) Do you know which file types can be embedded into PDF? Hence, can you count only the files allowed and tell the user that not allowed files will be skipped (maybe show the user which file type will be skipped)?
2b) Why are pages after the "bad boy" empty? IMHO XnView shall detect "page 33 is an error" and continue to place the remaining files successfully into page 34 etc.

Mh, aha  , so it relates to the files I put into a multipage file. There is soooo much room, "All Pages/Images" may be changed to "Insert all Pages/Images of multipage source images" without problems and with big benefit (people will understand easier what the checkmark will do).

Yes perhaps better... So you have 2 pictures, 2 others files, 2 pictures, you'll have a PDF like that: PIC/PIC/-/-/PIC/PIC ??

XnView can only use picture
Then, could you only count the image type files (=exclude AVIs etc from the beginning and telling the user about it, à la "Only the 21 selected image files will be placed in the PDF. The 35 other selected files of other types will be ignored.") or is this difficult? At least I like to know such tings :) as I can learn quickly which file types are okay.

Yes, if - means "white page", that's way better :-) Best would be PIC/PIC/PIC/PIC as I do not need to remove the empty pages manually in Acrobat before sending the PDF.

Status with Beta 5:
- XnView uses 'EXIF Rotate' option to turn the image correctly in PDF.
- Non-usable files are skipped. Numbering of pages is correct too.
- New name is "Insert all Pages/Images of multipage source images"
but it's truncated at the end.

=> there is only this small 'truncated display' bug to correct.
