Favourites: Change lables of context menu

Post by GeorgD »

Right click a favourite and watch the context menu: There's "delete" and "rename". Add tailing " favourite entry" so it's clear one is NOT changing the physical dir, but ONLY the shortcut/name within XnView favourites. At the moment it's confusing - I'm clicking something with a folder icon and name, but I'm not changing the folder but just some shortcut to it. /Georg

Perhaps better to use 'Remove favorite', and 'edit favorite'??

Even better - shorter and not ambiguous :)

But are you sure that Remove and Edit on favorites is ambiguous???
Because Add, create sub folder can be too ambiguous...

I'm not sure where I should right click - at the folder tree/favorites or the file list?

I can't right click the "folder tree/favorites" (favorites tab at the folder tree) - I'll start a new topic...

...Anyway, if a file is not deleted from hard drive, just removed from favorites, then it's really confusing if there is "delete", it should be definitely "remove favorite" or similar IMO.

That's why 'Remove favorite' and 'Edit favorite' are IMHO great. See the attached image: At the moment, there ain't any difference between the action naming for real folders and the shortcuts/favourites. Hence, I have to be very aware of the context, i.e. look closely at how the folders look like (deep in the tree, it's more difficult as I cannot see drive symbols in both views) or the (not at all dominant) view icons above the tree. In contrast, seeing the action names 'Remove favorite' versus 'delete folder' is very clear to me without having to look at the context.

Maybe the image above helps you? I did a right click on the blue labeled entry in both cases.

Fixed / changed in beta 3, but perhaps term "favorite" instead of "entry" should be used (e.g. edit entry, add entry), since you are using this term also at "delete favorite", "rename favorite", what do you think?

Yes, main (favorite) folders should use different icon IMO, perhaps a star, it's also quite important.
