I and many of my friends are looking for a program that tags and categorizes files in the apps database and in the image files.
This way, if I search, it is as fast as searching the db, and doesn't look through the iptc data in the images on the hd.. also, if i want to import images, it reads their IPTC data into my tage/categories.
I do not see that xnView does this, it seems to segregate IPTC data off to it's own, and when searching IPTC it takes very long and grinds the hd.. is htis correct?

Hey man, I work at one of the largest computer graphics studios in Europe, and have friends all across the industry; many of us use xnView on our personal computers! And don't worry, there is no program that really does this well.
I have used iView, ACDSee, InFran, Picasa, etc.. These apps segregate the IPTC data from any DB features, by making it some kind of metadata you can only change in the 'properties' of an image.
It would be great if for instance in the 'categories' lister it had all your categories from your db, and when you selected one to add to the IPC, it then also added that photo to that category in the db.
But I don't know how to solve transferring the photos. For instance, lets say I give a friend a whole bunch of reference photos. They all have IPTC categories and keywords embedded. If that person now wants to add those images I gave them to their xnView db, maybe it would require doing the 'search' for 'all fields' of IPTC then manually adding them. (currently)
Lastly, I don't really know what matches 'keywords' in xnView. I see Categories, Favorites, Rating, and Colour Label. Is there an xnView DB version of 'keywords', where you put some words about what is in the image and can search by those words?
Oh, and I am unsure if the IPTC search feature is working right now, I tried searching for something I knew was in my files and it returned nothing.
