v1.91.1 auto-cascade
Hi, I was happily using 1.84.x and now ported to the new version which causes me grief
. For some reason if I open several images (one instance of xnview) it now opens each image in a maximized sub-window, in 1.84 I was able to make it auto-cascade. Is there a way to do that in 1.91.1 ?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Why did you design it that way? I have been using XnView for a long time, but this rather strange trait (which I think appeared around version 1.9...) keeps bothering me (maybe a matter of taste).
I think older versions had an option for this, and I am desperately missing it. Any chance to have it back...?

Re: v1.91.1 auto-cascade
I am working with Version 1.96.1 and I too would like to use auto-cascade. Has the ini entry been included yet?

Re: v1.91.1 auto-cascade
• FYI : Auto-cascade works here up to the 1.82.4 version, and no longer in 1.90 Alpha3,
old versions I keep installed here to check such issues…

What's the INI entry ?
• Please, could you reveal what this new INI item is ? Supposing you added it, of course…
- I didn't find neither any related “Auto…” nor “Cascade…” one in my current INI for 1.96.1
TIA !

Re: v1.91.1 auto-cascade
Hi Clo,
I installed Version 1.82.4 into a new directory in Program Files. However, the xnview.ini file was loaded into C:\Documents and Settings\~\Application Data\XnView\ and so must have replaced the xnview.ini file for Version 1.96.1.
I can run both versions OK, but Version 1.96.1 now has auto-cascade! I may have lost some other functions from 1.96.1 but I have not noticed them yet.

Re: v1.91.1 auto-cascade
• I asssume that you have a single registry key for the two versions,
thus XnView “mixes its feet” and don't use the right INI…
… that in your case has a good side effect !
• Here, i've four versions installed, I chose to set the INI etc. in each version folder
and created one registry key per version.
- Otherwise, I'd a lot of annoyances i.e. with the tool-bars (mess in the shown skins and icons).
- Finally, I never use the SFX installer, always upgrade by hand from the ZIP package…

Re: v1.91.1 auto-cascade
I have quickly compared the xnview.ini files for 1.96.1 and 1.82.4. They seem to be very similar, but there is a difference under "[View]". In 1.82.4 the following is present, but in 1.96.1 it is not, so I assume it may be the auto-cascade instruction???...
MaximizeViewWhenOpen=0
It may be possible to just paste this line into xnview.ini for 1.96.1?

• That doesn't hurt to attempt that… Just place the line at the right location regarding the alphabetical order in that section. Save the file and restart XnView.
- Sorry, I missed time to test that further…

Re: v1.91.1 auto-cascade
Next question: is there a line for xnview.ini which will allow you to always start XNview in cascade mode? Auto-cascade only works after you have selected Window/Cascade the first time and is OK for the rest of the session. However, XNview does not 'remember' that setting the next time the program is started and you have to select Window/Cascade again.
