defining companions

Hello,
I just stumbled over the improved companion handling feature - to discover that it is probably no improvement for me:
I want to move companion files like .xmp (Photoshop creates them when converting) together with raw files, but I DON'T want to move jpgs. E.g. after converting a raw file I usually delete it, but of course I want to keep the jpg I just produced.

Is there a way not only to define what a companion is but also what is NOT a companion?
(By the way: Messing in an .ini file is not a very user friendly way to set preferences.)

Yes, change Companion_ item in xnview.ini

This defines what a companion IS. But how to define that .jpg is NOT a companion? Neither in the help nor in the forum I could find a hint on "companion_item"

If you have only:
Companion_00=nef:xmp
when you delete/copy/move a .nef, the .xmp will be too

If you have:
Companion_00=nef:xmp
Companion_01=nef:jpg

This would be clear. But I had NEITHER specified in my xnview.ini, I just had the checkbox in the preferences checked. ("For copy/move ... /.jpg)"). So jpg seems to be included by default?

Yes by default xnview use
Companion_00=nef:jpg

So in your xnview.ini, add Companion_00=nef:xmp in Browser section

So just to understand better what I did:
- What is the difference between the entry in the browser section and
in the file section?
- Nothing specified means default = jpg is included with raw, thm, ... and
something specified means: everything not specified is not included?

I believe some text box in the options dialogue with a good explanation would be very helpful.

Sorry it's File section

Yes, currently i use default settings if you don't want to change companion file....
