Indesign file format view?

Post by gwmbox »

HI all

First I apologise up front if this is a dumb question as it appears when I asked it at IrfanView the response was that I must be joking - well I'm not - I just want to know if it is possible, if it isn't then fine but I always believe if you do not ask you do not get (an answer one way or the other), so here it is...

Is it possible for XnView to open INDD InDesign files?- if not fine, but if it could then great - simple question.

If it cannot does anyone know of another program that will - only need read only so open to any constructive comments please

Cheers

Hello gwmbox,

I assume it's no big deal for Pierre to enable XnView to read the embedded thumbnails of InDesign documents. But when it comes to opening the document itself, the situation is similar as with Corel's proprietary file formats.

In short, that means you can more easily identify your PDF, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign files without having to first open them.

Portfolio 8.1.1 can now preview Adobe InDesign CS2 documents that contain embedded preview images. To enable this feature, in the InDesign Preferences dialog box, in the File Handling area, enable the “Always Save Preview Images with Documents” option and choose a preview size. When InDesign files are added to a Portfolio catalog, the first page of your document will be used for the document's thumbnail and preview image.

This is an example of an InDesign thumbnail of the iView user manual:

iView renders only the thumbnail Media view. iView’s Rebuild Thumbnail command will not improve the quality of InDesign thumbnails.

  • INDD = InDesign Document
    INDT = InDesign Template
    INX = InDesign Interchange
