Database behaviour

Post by mahikeulbody »

I love XnViewMP but I fail to understand the database behaviour... It is very unclear for me, moreover since search using only database fail each time. So I have some questions related to this matter :

1) Is 'Base path of your pictures' the root folder of files to "catalog" ? If so, to set it inside a "Thumbnails" panel is confusing...
2) Is 'Excluded/included' function related to thumbnail caching or related to folders to catalog (or not to catalog) ?
3) How to force sync between database and files of the catalog ? How to know this sync is done ?

May be there is some documentation which answers all my question ?

Thanks !
Michel

Yes, but you can leave empty

thumbnail caching
3) How to force sync between database and files of the catalog ? How to know this sync is done ?
By default when you go to a folder, XnView check files...

I have a folder by month inside a folder by year, so I have more or less 140 folders. Do you mean that I have to open once each one in order to have an efficient search (i.e. using db) ? :(

Edit: Ok, I can do 'Show all files (recursive)'. But I think that it is not very efficient to do that each time we modify some files in a few folders...

Hum i think that i understand, now. The base folder is only to not store in DB full pathname. For example, to share a folder between multiple computers...
It's not a folder that XnView will check for new files/folders.... XnView fill database when you navigate through folders...

So you would like a folder watcher in XnView?

Is that kind of related to my request to have a tool to reorganize the database, i.g. to remove non-existing files from the database? Then I,too, would very much like to have that! :D
