RC4: Column 'Name' too narrow

Post by helmut »

In RC4, the column 'Name' in view 'Thumbnails & Details' is too narrow: The thumbnail can be seen, but the name is completely hidden. :bug:

(For image files this might be o.k., but for folders...)

lol? Then make it wider just like you would in the ordinary "Details" view.

Excellent tip. We'll write this in the release notes of XnView 1.80. And you can answer the mails of hundreds of novice users asking the same question over and over, again.

Honestly, I think we better fix this.

Honestly? Sorry, but this is rediculus. You got the typical coloumns like in every "Detail view" in any other program. So they work exactly the same. I think you underestimate "novice users".

One thing i do agree on is that the coloumn width for this particular view should be stored independently from the ordinary Detail View.

This might sounds like a little thing to you, but these little things make up a good software. Users should not be forced to install a software and then first fiddle around to make it work properly. For convenience reasons, also for novice users such little things can be damn hard and make their life difficult.

Yes. Both views should have separate columns widths.

In RC5 it's a bit better, but with the default column width you can see two characters of the filename, only, which means that 99.9% of the files are displayed with elipsis "...". The column width of the first column should be around 205 minimum (tcolum0=205).

The column width of the column "Properties" should also be also increased so that at least a full date (without time) fits. I suggest 144 as default value (tcolumn1=144).

Moved back to New/Open.

(You can open xnview.ini and search for 'tcolumn' if you want to check values yourself.)

In RC6, the column 'Name' is o.k., but colum 'Properties' is still too narrow. I'll start a new topic since there might be a better way to solve this.
