For dim monitors, it would be useful to link gamma by default to filter>effects preview. The suggestion helps make effects preview look like main view.

Right. The Gamma setting should apply to any images shown in XnView including thumbnails and previews. Especially for image correction this is important, otherwise you cannot do corrections properly (assumung that Gamma corrections is set properly and balances the contrast of the monitor).
