Improving 'EXIF orientation'

Post by Olivier_G »

Here is a suggestion to avoid issues with the 'EXIF orientation' feature (especially when images haven't been properly handled before).
=> Apply 'EXIF orientation' only on images in landscape format.

The idea is that images are always stored as landscape by digicams. If the image is not in landscape anymore, it means the user decided to rotate it => there is no reason to take into account the EXIF orientation flag anymore.
This would also be applicable with the 'Embedded Thumbnails' feature (ie: turn Thumbnails in landscape only).

Note: the EXIF orientation icon should be shown only for images that were really turned (and not the portrait images with still a wrong EXIF flag).

Pretty sure... that's exactly the purpose of EXIF orientation flag.
